What Happens When Payments Fail In Kartra?
Updated November 7, 2024
If you have products with recurring monthly charges or installments, Kartra will charge them at the frequency you have specified when you set up the product. Monthly/Annually etc.
Awesome, but what happens that payment fails.
Kartra will try a total of 4 times, over 10 days to charge their card. It will look something like this.
Day 1 – Charge > Fail (send email if enabled). [wait 3 days]
Day 4 – Charge > Fail (send email if enabled). [wait 3 days]
Day 7 – Charge > Fail (send final email if enabled). [wait 3 days]
Day 10 – Charge > Fail (send cancelled if enabled). Cancel Subscription.
Check out the below example of this. This client set up an annual payment on March 1, 2020, On March 1, 2021 there was an attempt to re-bill, this re-bill was not successful. Attempted again on March 4, March 7, and finally on the 10th. On the 10th with out a successful charge, this subscription was cancelled, and the user was removed from access.
If your product is connected to a membership, this will automatically revoke access. If you wish to have tags/lists removed, create those in Automations.
At this time there is no way to adjust this schedule.
In those emails (find them in email notifications) they will be given the info to update their card information.
Kartra has starter copy in these emails, but I always recommend adding a bit of personality, adjusting the copy so it's in your words, and providing super clear instructions, and exactly how to get to the self billing center to update their card info. I've added red emoji's to mine so they stand out a bit more in the user's inbox.
IMPORTANT! You CAN get an email notification from Kartra via Email Notifications > To Your Team
